What sets our cutting boards apart?

Most wood cutting boards are made of glued up pieces of commercially processed lumber; and there’s nothing wrong with them. In fact, some of these wood cutting boards are skillfully made and of high quality. There’s no doubt edge and end grain cutting boards have their own exclusive benefits…but they all look manufactured.

What distinguishes our walnut cutting boards, maple cutting boards or cherry cutting boards from others is our single wood slab construction and finished board thickness that’s greater than 2 inches. That’s it, that simple – our character grade hardwood with its wavy grain and rich color bring genuine natural wood character into any kitchen. That same organic appeal makes for some memorable presentations when it comes time to celebrate with family and friends.

Hard maple is the hardest of the three woods, cherry is the softest with walnut somewhere in the middle – these are closed grain woods that resist food juices and blood from absorbing into the wood fibers, minimizing food contamination. All three woods have a hardness that’s easy on knife edges, yet durable enough to last a lifetime. Our thick sugar maple, cherry and walnut cutting boards will last a lifetime when cared for properly.

Rustic Live Edge or Modern Flat Edge, each style celebrate the amazing natural beauty of of our native Pennsylvania hardwood. Aesthetically, our custom cutting boards reveal beautiful natural wood character making them a dynamic accent in any kitchen. Use our wood cutting boards for everything from meal prep to entertaining – use them to display your outstanding charcuterie spread. Our solid wood cutting boards are versatile beginning with our reversable board style yielding two spacious cutting surfaces. Our thick, single plank hardwood construction delivers a hefty look with plenty of amazing looking face and edge grain for all to admire.

Why choose sustainably salvaged wood?

Twenty years ago, most of today’s character grade hardwood – oak, elm, cherry and maple among others, was shredded up into mulch or burned in home wood stoves. Thankfully, the public noticed the décor value of this amazing wood and the demand for it to make solid furniture and homewares continues to grow. We upcycle every wood slab we use for our wood shelves and cutting boards, we saw logs we purchase from Tree Service contractors who remove the trees that died, were storm damaged or threatened a structure. We are passionate about finding "the special logs" - solid logs with unusual character - sought after figure and natural imperfections that tell the story of the tree it came from. We saw these logs into thick wood slabs of 12’ long or longer – stack them in the sequence they were sawn then air dry for two years.

By using upcycled wood to make our custom cutting boards and custom floating shelves we give this beautiful wood a second life – sought after by a public who appreciates its natural beauty. Additionally, we are able to reduce waste and minimize our impact on the environment.

Ask any professional chef how important their thick wooden cutting board is to them and theyll likely tell you having one is a must. Our cutting boards are thick and heavier than most and therefore are more stable and comfortable to work on. Our 2”+ board thickness resists warping, additionally the added thickness allows for reconditioning if desired. Our board thickness yields a wide edge allowing the board to stand stably on edge against the counter backsplash for all to see. No glue-joints to dry out.

Our custom cutting boards with their natural properties of wood make it naturally antibacterial, making it a safe and hygienic choice for your kitchen. Choose a cutting board that is as unique and special as the meals you create - choose a single solid piece wood cutting board.
