Our walnut floating shelves are defined by their wood and satin smooth finish. ZimBoard Black Walnut Floating Shelves feature a genuine black walnut single-plank shelf finished with the PREMIUM FINE-FURNITURE FINISH, Catalyzed Conversion Varnish (CCV). We never glue store-bought boards together but instead use a genuine 2” thick black walnut wood slab showing uniform grain and color. Our CCV Finish is the fine furniture industries recognized premium finish that is durable, sealing the wood and is maintenance-free requiring no re-application.
WHAT IS CONVERSION VARNISH?
Conversion varnish, also called Catalyzed Conversion Varnish (CCV) is a lacquer which consists of a two-part application process - a hardening agent is added to the varnish prior to spraying. This hardening agent provides additional durability, is fast-drying, and consists of 40-60% solids. CCV is more durable than Lacquer and won’t yellow like Polyurethane.
Other hand-rubbed finishes do not compare to CCV’s durability, texture or level of required maintenance.
The CCV Finish Advantages justify its cost because it’s more durable and elastic thus moves with the wood. CCV is heat, humidity and scratch resistant providing it is applied properly. CCV protects the wood longer, is easy to clean and leaves a satin-smooth textured surface.
CCV is more costly but delivers a better floating shelf finish when compared to most other wood finishes. CCV protects our beautiful character-grade hardwood while exposing its awesome color and character. Our Finishing Department is capable of providing you with a professionally applied – premium finish.

Our Black Walnut Flat-Edge shelves show beautiful edge-grain with natural color variations while the flat surface and straight lines reveal a modern / contemporary style.
Shelves 30”W and greater feature our heavy steel “post” hidden bracket that is also easy to install (50# capacity per wall stud).
Choose the correct size wood shelf that fits your space. We maintain a ready-to-ship inventory that continuously changes – expect a 3-5 wk. lead-time on made to order shelves. Our maximum shelf length due to shipping restraints is 80”W and a depth of 12”D. Other shelf options include custom finishes and under-shelf LED lighting.

INSTALLATION
Installing our shelves is simple and easy, although our longer shelves (over 36”W) may be a little heavy and awkward requiring two sets of hands to safely install. Each shelf comes with an Installation Manual – a stud finder, power drill, pencil, level is required to install.
IMPORTANT | PLEASE READ
Our shelves are a “character-grade” single wood slab and not glued up pieces of commercial lumber – no glue seams or unmatched grain patterns just the authentic natural figure of the wood – continuous grain patterns and character.
Multiple shelf orders – When we saw our logs, we keep the wood slabs together while they’re dried and when they’re stored. This means we can use wood with the same character, color and edge – when you order multiple shelves for the same location, they will have the same color and character.
